On the Hoof

So, Bas and I went to Uni to meet Patrick for lunch on Monday. We sat in the Great Court, ate some food and tried to prevent Bas from interrupting the study groups and the people trying to eat. He eventually discovered the magic of the stroller. He grabbed it, stood up and proceeded to push it around the grass in erratic circles, occassionally tripping over his own feet. All the while with a large grin on his face and lots of giggling. This went on for over an hour.

This morning, I heard the young monkey giggling mischieviously and when I looked up, there he was playing with his high chair. Now, the chair is of the wheeled variety, and he frequently walks around the house pushing this rather than his little walking toy thingy, but in this instance he was pulling it towards himself, navigating it into position, then running around the house giggling like a giggly mcgiggler.

He's not yet confident with the unaided toddling, but he's trying it more times than not, often stranding himself in the middle of a room, swaying uneasily on his feet, trying a couple of steps and deciding it's much easier to just get down on his knees and crawl. Though, there have been numerous occassions where he's just let go and walked over to us or to another part of the room (so long as it's only five or less steps away).

He's now decided he wants to go and talk to his Grandma Ward on the phone.

Tooth Hurty

I've just discovered why the wee man has been so grumpy these past few days: he's been secretly teething!

The new chomper revealed itself to me during this morning's nappy change. So at least we've got an explanation for those middle of the night screaming wakeups he's been giving us. How he's managed to push one through without any of the usual teething signs is beyond me, but he is a bit of an unusual lad.

This brings the teeth total up to 8.

Time for Coffee

Without fail, if a small child is suddenly quiet, you know they're up to no good. I've just cleaned up the coffee Bas decided looked better on the floor than in the coffee mug sitting on the table.

He may be small, but he's got a good reach! The cup was quite a distance from the edge, and he hasn't figured out how to climb onto the chairs yet.

Slime Covered Party Animal

Bas and I have just finished up in the shower where I had to cleanse him of the hair gel he'd so lovingly covered himself in. How he even got the jar off the bathroom bench and open, I'll never know, but he did. I'm more than convinced that he didn't eat any of it, but gosh he had a ball. The bathroom floor, his face and clothes were simply covered in slime. When Patrick picked him up (thinking he was actually covered in water from playing in the shower), he had this expression of innocence on his face that made you wonder what he'd been up to.

Last night at the Tongue and Groove Jam Session, he was making friends all over the downstairs bar and singing along to both my set and Patricks'. He loves the place! More than he ever did O'Learys. I think it's because it's a cosier atmosphere, it's 100% Non Smoking and it's nowhere near as loud as O'Learys. Oh, and it has strips of flashing lights on the floor he constantly wants to play with. He's also very welcome there (not that he wasn't welcome at O'Learys, but Tongue and Groove is certainly more relaxed because of it's cafe status than O'Learys pub/restaurant status: the patrons are much cooler and far less likely to be football yobbos), which is great! So Bas acquainted himself with the place in intimate detail, including the table top Space Invaders game, even going so far as to vomiting on an armchair. I think he's made the place home, and Jess seems to really enjoy his company.

Right now he's sleeping off his goop making experience, and probably still recovering from all the fun and excitement of last night. It's good to be able to take him out with us when we perform. I just wish that more licensed establishments were as relaxed.

At the tone the time shall be...

So, here it is, almost midnight and the little bugger's decided that he's not tired anymore and wants to be up and about and playing. So, while Patrick makes his way to lovely Land of Nod, I'm sitting here listening to Bas play with his musical beetle trying not to drop off. Any attempts at setting him back down for a few more winks are met with a look of betrayal and a very loud scream. It's simply better for it to be this way.

I hope to get some sleep before 1am.

Let us cross our fingers shall we.

One Small Step

Big News!!!! Sebastian took his first UNAIDED steps on Sunday.

I was crouching down to his level giving him a cuddle when I decided to flop onto my butt leaving him standing in the middle of the floor about six inches or less in front of me, he stretched out his little arms and took a tentative and shaky, but well planted, step towards me before grabbing onto my knee and supporting himself the rest of the way. Patrick was watching from the dining room table, so neither of us missed it. The only thing we missed was capturing it on camera, but I'm sure that time will come soon.

Also, he's just figured out how to wave. This occurred on Sunday as well, so it was a big day for the wee man. At almost every opportunity he's giving us a big wave or high five and grining manically. It's all very amusing to watch.
